Pallavakkam Seashore St. Anthony’s Shrine - The Diocese of Chingleput

Good Friday 2016

Good Friday was the day of celebration of the Lord’s passion. However, Eucharistic adoration resumed at 06.00 am and ended with benediction at 03.00 pm. The English speaking community meditated on the way of the cross from 08.00 am to 09.30 am. It was animated by Rev. Fr. Harris Pakkam sdb from DBCAD KILPAUK. Again at 03.00 pm, the celebration of the Lord’s passion took place for the English speaking community. Mean while the way of the cross commenced in Tamil. It was indeed the privileged moments to open the eyes of our heart’s seen and hear the cries and pains of the beloved brethren. At 04.15pm the Good Friday passion ceremony began. It consisted of four parts such as Liturgy of the word, General Intercession, veneration of the cross and communion service.

Rev.Fr. Peter from the diocese of Palaiyamkottai during his preaching enunciated the seven words of Jesus on the cross. He insisted that the Good Friday is not a day of sadness and cry but a day of victory, salvation and fulfilment.

Then followed the classical traditional popular devotion. That was carrying the dead body of Jesus Christ in THOOMBA and the procession took place till our Shrine’s arch.

The procession started from the shrine then went till the M.G.R SALAI arch and culminated in the shrine again. Spraying of Enormous amount of flowers and ringing of considerable number of wooden bells made the faithful to participate prayerfully. Consequently, the veneration of the dead body of Jesus emerged spontomously from the faithful and the volunteers animated them. Finally the people dispersed in silence.
